Dave Lochen owns Shore Acres Farm near Kimball in Stearns County and is a proud participant of the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP) and has made numerous changes to Shore Acres Farm to improve water quality and protect Minnesota’s natural resources.

Shore Acres Farm is a beef cattle and diversified crop operation growing seed and sweet corn, soybeans and wheat. As part of his certification, Dave has made changes to fertility, reduced some tillage practices and added cover crops. Those changes will reduce water runoff and improve soil health.

By working with partners to identify practices like cover crops and grassed waterways, Dave was able to make smart refinements in nutrient management that had an overall positive impact on his farm. Continuing to tweak his operation will strengthen Shore Acre Farms for years to come.

Third Street Brewhouse is proud to partner with the MAWQCP to recognize local farmers for the great work they are doing to protect our local water resources. As a sign of our support and appreciation, we’re happy to provide each certified farmer with a Minnesota Gold sign and case of beer.
