Kurt Kretschmer & Family Benefit Fundraiser
August 21 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Beer proceeds from the evening will benefit Kurt Kretschmer and his family.
Kurt is a 37 year old husband and father of two and a dear friend to Cold Spring. During a family trip to the Wisconsin Northwoods last summer, he fell ill with a severe sore throat, but his family never suspected the cause could be cancer. Kurt eventually ended up in the ER with such severe pain and was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on August 5th. AML is a rapidly progressing type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells. Over the course of the last 8 months, Kurt’s leukemia journey has taken him on a rollercoaster of ups and downs. He was considered in remission twice and has relapsed twice. He is currently getting high dose chemotherapy treatment to try and gain complete remission, so that he can eventually obtain an allogenic stem cell transplant. This transplant will use healthy blood stem cells from an unrelated donor to replace Kurt’s diseased system. The stem cells will infuse with Kurt’s bloodstream, eventually traveling to his bone marrow and begin creating new blood cells. Without a transplant, Kurt’s leukemia would eventually return. Thank you for your support to help Kurt beat this horrible disease.
